Effective Altruism (or EA) is a research project and community working out how to do the most good and then taking action on that basis..

The MIT branch of Effective Altruism (EA MIT) was founded with the goal of inspiring like minded students to use their time at the Institute to do good better.

Since then, EA MIT has collaborated with many groups across MIT, including CSAIL and the Media Lab, to work on impactful projects like AI safety and biosecurity.
